EPISODE 25 THE PARENTING MENTOR: When You Need Quality Time With Your Child with Marissa K.

Marissa has a 15-year-old daughter, and even though they spend most of their time physically together as Marissa does her virtual work as a lawyer and her daughter does her virtual school, they don’t get much quality time together. Marissa’s daughter often wants to tell her something, but Marissa tends to be too busy to hear it in the moment. Marissa is looking for ways to let her daughter know that she loves her and prioritizes her without dropping the ball at work.

Today, we talk about the power of scheduling. I note the importance of letting your child know how much quality time means to you (as opposed to just them), and I suggest the scheduling of breaks dedicated to quality time. I talk about the impact of putting these dates in planners, and I suggest that Marissa buys notebooks for each of them in which they can write what they want to tell each other.

You’re doing this together, but you’re doing it because it really matters to you. And that’s the message that needs to come through most of all. ”
