Episode 1: Welcome to the Parenting Mentor Sessions
EPISODE 1 THE PARENTING MENTOR: Welcome to the Parenting Mentor Sessions
The Parenting Mentor Sessions is the place where real moms and dads call in and open up about their parenting struggles. Here, you can listen in on Sue's conversations with these parents to get strategies, skills, and scripts to reduce the everyday anxiety that inevitably comes with being a parent.
In this episode, Sue gives some background. She offers her own story of raising two kids, and how she gradually learned what does and doesn’t work, as well as what it does and doesn’t mean to be a parent. She offers her philosophy about the role of a parent and talks about how everyday childrearing is more about the process than about the immediate results. She talks about why parents should be guides and support systems for their children, not human engineers. She discusses why you can’t walk them through every situation, but why you can (and should) equip them to be able to navigate different situations on their own. Finally, she introduces her CLEARR Method.
“Parenting is not an eighteen-year engineering project.”
